BBC radio news is carrying a story that Birmingham city centre is being evacuated due to "a major threat to public safety". This is being described as a "proportionate response" and a "controlled explosion" has taken place on a bus.
There are apparently very bad traffic jams on the M40, city centre is cordoned off...
