This community has served its primary purpose, and is now 'moderated' - the intention is to preserve the current contents as a record of last month's events and our reaction to them. Any relevant information will be added, and the community will be re-opened in the event of other related incidents. Thank you for your time and contributions. PF 15/08/05
Community for FACTUAL discussion of incidents in London on July 7th 2005, practical matters related to "returning to normal", and establishing contact with friends/colleagues in London who might have been affected. (If you want to express sympathy or discuss your emotional reaction to the events, london_hurts is the place).
Please avoid speculation/conjecture, editorialising etc and confine discussion to verifiable facts or news stories from reputable sources. Please encourage as many people as possible to join and contribute. Feel free to use the community to check on people who are or may be in London - several posts already exist for this.
PLEASE READ RECENT ENTRIES BEFORE POSTING. IF THERE ARE DUPLICATE MESSAGES, THEY WILL BE DELETED SO PLEASE DON'T GET OFFENDED. And, if possible, consider using LJ tags on your posts.
Let's act responsibly and sensibly here and try to piece together what's going on. This is NOT a forum for political discussion, or for general expressions of shock and sympathy. Your own journals are the place for that. Off-topic entries will be deleted, entries in dubious taste will be deleted and the posters banned. There is a time and place for humour - this is not it.
EDIT: Please avoid posting anything that demands a lot of bandwidth (big pictures) to the community. The net is taking a hammering today - let's keep bandwidth low and information content high.
If at all possible, please cite sources for any new information..
If you wish to contact friends/relatives overseas this post has a list of people willing to pass on messages.
The community is being overwhelmed with messages from people in the US offering to contact friends/relatives. Please - read and check to see if anyone in your area is already offering to do that before offering yourself. We seem to have enough people offering that service already..... Thanks for the kind thoughts, but I think we probably have enough people helping out on this one.
This community's memories list is being used to archive important posts - contact information, etc. Please look there.
Thanks to the volunteers who offered their services as maintainers - your time is precious.
